We are praying for Neil Holland, the Building Commissioner of the City of Roanoke. The Building Department is considered a part of Public Safety at the City of Roanoke. One of their main charges is to be sure that properties are constructed in accordance with current building code so that they are safe. This can involve numerous things from what seems like the simplest to the most complex. The staff have to keep abreast of lots of rules in order to carry out their jobs yet they also need to be able to work reasonably with citizens who might make small mistakes when doing construction. The Building Department issues lots of permits and conducts lots of inspections. Occasionally, the department might be involved in condemning a property or dealing with a scene after fire damage, etc. There is a huge range of projects from the very small one of putting on a deck to the large one of some of the commercial construction projects – like a Hampton Inn going atop a parking garage in downtown Roanoke!
Lunch is available following the service for a suggested $6 donation. Today’s menu is Corned Beef, Irish Potato Casserole, Waldorf Salad, Hot Rolls, Irish Soda Bread, and Chocolate Mint Brownies.
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ 14And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ 15He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ 16Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah,* the Son of the living God.’ 17And Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you, you are Peter,* and on this rock* I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’ Matthew 16:13-19
