- What would the benefits be to adding on to our existing building? By adding a much larger fellowship area, we would enhance Greene Memorial’s ability to expand our outreach programs. It would allow Greene Memorial to host, for instance, a group like the Interfaith Hospitality Network. We would be able to offer programs for youth and families as well as the elderly with the space of the new Fellowship Hall.
- Are other churches doing something similar? We know of several churches with about the same size congregation of Greene Memorial that have recently completed a building project. One, with 800 members, was completed five years ago and will be paid off this year.
- What is the estimated cost of our project? $4.4 Million, that will be paid out during the 3 to 4 years of the construction contract. Actual cost figures will be available to the congregation for their vote prior to awarding a construction contract. This kind of project does not have to be paid off in a lump sum. Greene Memorial will be able to continue to raise money as the project progresses.
- How will we pay for it? Church building projects are paid for in a variety ways, such as cash donations, pledges paid over a 3 to 5 year period, and gifts of Stocks and Bonds. Other gifts can be made through planned giving. Examples would include making Greene Memorial a part of your Will or Trust and/or naming Greene Memorial beneficiary of your life insurance or annuity policy. Please keep in mind the majority of funds would be needed in the first 5 to 10 years of this project. Members will decide how much “non-budgeted” support they are willing and able to provide.
- Where will we park if we build on the present parking lot? Greene Memorial owns the Downtown Learning Center building and adjacent parking lot. We can reclaim some or all of that parking area. Additional free parking for church purposes is available anytime in any Allright lot by using a Greene Memorial parking slip.
- What would happen to the Downtown Learning Center? Nothing will be done in the immediate future. Eventually it could be incorporated into the new building, which would comply with requirements for a daycare facility. The old building could be razed for additional parking.
- Who designed the new building? Rife and Wood Architects worked with suggestions from church staff, Sunday school teachers, council members, committee chairpersons and various church members. When planning first started, the building committee visited several churches that had recently completed a building project. Many of their suggestions and the things they learned have been incorporated into these plans.
- Will the beauty of Greene Memorial be enhanced? Stone similar to the original structure will be used on the outer walls. Many of the original design details from our building will be used in the new addition. With the new plans there will be a clear entrance to the church, with protection from the weather. The new structure will attract the attention of the whole valley and support Greene Memorial’s drive for everyone to hear the word of Christ.
- Why do this now? Our mission is to bring people to Christ. The world is changing daily and these new plans will allow us to offer much of what is sought after by today’s seekers.
