Outdoor Carillon Concert This Sunday
Patriotic Themes Included
At 8:00 this Sunday evening, the 5th of July 2015, Greene Memorial’s tower bells will ring out over downtown Roanoke for the 16th year since this event was originated.
When we begin at 8:00 it is still daylight; when we end at 9pm the sun has set and the church’s stained glass, now illuminated from the inside, creates a beautiful scene for all those assembled in front of the church. Before the concert begins there is free ice cream under the tent on the church parking lot.
It’s a great way to end a Sunday evening. You can bring the whole family, the family dog, your friends—and their dog, too! Invite your neighbors. After the concert the church is open and lighted and you come in to view the inside.
Because this particular concert takes place one day after the 4th of July celebrations, some of the programming will reference patriotic themes, especially the great world conflicts of 1915 and 1941.
If you have friends who live in the downtown area within walking distance of the church, this would be a great event to say “come join us!” Bring a lawn chair and/or blanket. Second Street in front of the church is closed to vehicle traffic.
Rain cancels this event. (If it rains go to telephone number 344-6225, ext. 005 or the website where cancellation information will be posted at 7pm.)
