September 27 Begins Our Week With Family Promise

September 27 Begins Our Week With Family Promise

posted in: Church News | 0

It is time once again for our week of Family Promise beginning Sunday, September 27.  This is the last week we will serve this year.

This program houses homeless families at different churches each week. The idea is to give them a place to sleep and food to eat so they will be able to save money to afford their own housing.  The Family Promise staff helps them find jobs as well as aid with financial planning and parenting.  Greene Memorial partners with St. John Lutheran on Brambleton Avenue to host one week four times a year.

We are responsible for

  • providing dinner four nights
  • evening hosts four nights
  • overnight hosts three nights

The cooks and evening hosts arrive at St. John at 5:45. The cooks usually are finished by 7:15.  The evening hosts stay until 8:30 when the overnight host arrives.  The guests are picked up at 7:00 a.m.

This is a wonderful program that has had many success stories.  Please consider being a part of it by volunteering in one of these positions.  There is a sign-up sheet in the Welcome Center under the monitor.
