VIPCare

Greene Memorial IS a Satellite Location for the Virginia Institute for Pastoral Care

Founded in 1967 and offering individual, marriage, and family counseling, the Virginia Institute for Pastoral Care is one of the premier pastoral counseling centers in Virginia and one of the oldest and most respected pastoral counseling centers in the nation.  Staffed by ministers who have degrees in theology as well as degrees in mental health, VIPCare’s counselors are certified as pastoral counselors by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and many are licensed as professional counselors and marriage and family therapists by the Virginia Board of Professional Counselors.

As pastoral counselors, the staff at VIPCare seek to help people:

  • improve communication
  • rebuild life after a significant loss
  • assess areas of work and growth with a future partner
  • enrich a marriage
  • parent more effectively
  • recover from a divorce
  • heal effects from abusive relationships
  • resolve causes of depression, anxiety, anger, confusion, or insecurity
  • develop a more enriching and holistic faith

In 2008 the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate passed House Joint Resolution #292, recognizing VIPCare’s outstanding leadership and contribution to the field of pastoral counseling and education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Greene Memorial  provides VIPCare with part-time space to offer pastoral care to the people of the Roanoke Valley.  By offering VIPCare part-time use of one of our rooms, Greene Memorial is VIPCare’s newest satellite location and the only location west of the Richmond area.

David Mucha, a retired United Methodist minister and an associate staff counselor at VIPCare, is the site coordinator and serves as the primary staff counselor for the site.

Providing space for VIPCare to offer counseling services to people going through difficult times is just one of the ways that Greene Memorial hopes to use its new, renovated facilities to expand the church’s ministry to the people of Roanoke and the Roanoke Valley.
